The European Blues Challenge (EBC) is a competition produced by the European Blues Union for bands from over 20 countries that are members of the EBU. Held annually since 2011, each year the EBC attracts more & more musicians and fans from all around Europe and the world, creating a friendly platform for aspiring European blues bands to present themselves in front of a broad, international audience.
In 2023 the EBC will, for the first time, take place in Chorzów, Poland, and will be an outdoor event!
The winners of the competition are awarded by being booked to perform at Europe’s most prestigious festivals like Santa Maria Blues Festival (Azores), BB Blues Festival (Portugal), Lucerne Blues Festival (Switzerland), Blues in Hell (Norway) and others (TBC soon).
CHORZÓW is located in the heart of the Silesian Metropolitan Area in the south of Poland. Once an industrial town (home to now defunct two steel works, four coal mines and various other plants), Chorzów has over the last 30 years undergone a major transformation, and is now known for its cultural events.
Being home to Poland’s only blues magazine, „Twój Blues” Quarterly, and three annual blues festivals („Bluestracje” / April; “Front Porch Blues” / July; „Blues Alive” / November), Chorzów has also throughout years hosted numerous shows, including, but not limited to Shemekia Copeland, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Joe Bonamassa, Beth Hart, as well as U2, Metallica, the Rolling Stones.
Chorzów’s other attractions include a blues museum (Gruba Bluesa) and the „Prezydent” mining shaft and viewing platform — both a part of the „Sztygarka” complex, located in the post-industrial area of a now defunct coal mine; a beautiful and extensive park („Park Śląski” / „Wojewódzki Park Kultury i Wypoczynku w Chorzowie” encompassing a Zoo, „Legendia” amusement park, a planetarium, the Museum of Metallurgy, and other attractions).
