Stay away from re-issues, and actually, anything Fender after 1967. Look for PRE-CBS, original,
Fender Electrical Instrument Company (The REAL Fender from Leo Fender's original designs), and not, Fender Musical Instrument Company (The CBS Company's crappy re-designs, starting with solid-state pre-amps! NO!)
Leo Fender had it all figured out, point-to-point wiring, no solid-state preamp, and CBS bought the firm and now, ONLY the name is there.
My friend bought a Deluxe Reverb re-issue and a one part broke in 3 weeks, a part that is STILL ok on my original Deluxe from 1965. Then they told him to ship them the amp to fix it! It was the cable that connects the amp to the speaker. On the reissue, they use a $0.25 Chinese, plastic cable, and on the 1965 Original, it's from metal and welded!
It's all crap today. But the old one, replace all tubes, maybe speaker - depending on what you find, and check all capacitors for corrosion and test all resistors. It WILL cost you money to keep one of these going, with repairs from time to time on various small parts that do wear out after 40 years, but WORTH it.
About tubes, after EXTENSIVE testing, for an ORIGINAL, Fender pre CBS, (per 1967) amp, I strongly
recommend Electro-Harmonix tubes, especially for the two Power Tubes! BIG difference maker!!!

I use a Tech 21 Trademark 60 and powered extension cabinet because they are light and I'm getting old. I recently picked up a Pignose (gourouni miti?) G40V and replaced the tubes with JJ's and the speaker with an Eminence Legend 105 and it sounds great for Blues.
I tend to agree with mr. Trossman. Leo Fender had it goin on. besides Rene's reply is the only one I can read. Ive been playing through my 65 Pro Reverb about 15 yrs now (pretty hard years). I stopped lookin for an amp the day I found my 65 Pro. Although like the other guy said alot of cats ae trying to lighten up thier gear. My amp is a PIG! Im getting old too. and theres something to be said about making due with what you got,you make it work. cause, its all you got Hell that is the blues, man. Thats the way it goes. I believe the speakers have alot to do with the tone you'll get. They are the final output stage of your sound. Never skimp on the speakers.
anyway Im new here. My name is Chris. I dont speak your language. eh, I take that back. I speak the blues and so do you. Thats very cool to me. later...
