Primarily a Father and Son duo, The Blacktop Rockets began playing on the streets of Sydney in 2007. Until recently we performed outside the station in Darlinghurst Rd Kings X on friday evenings where Harry earned enough to pay for his drum equipment. We have also played at Blues Festivals and are available for gigs, charity work etc. During 2008 we were invited by Blues legends Blind Dog Powell and Jimmy Lloyd Rea to form up for a tour of the Chittlin Circuit in the USA where Blind Dog spent so many years touring. We now have a backer for the tour and also funding to do our first full length CD. We hope to have it finished by the beginning of February. We also have an agreement with Velvet Blues Records of Kentucky to handle all distribution in the US and Europe where we also hope to travel. Harrys playing has attracted the attention of a number of overseas acts as well as a recent offer to appear on National Television. We both love good loud Blues and Harry seems to have been born with the gift of the groove. He just lays it down so perfectly that many seasoned performers ask to play with him. Harry is 13 and began studying drums under Rick Markham, a reknown Sydney Drummer and teacher. Rick spotted Harrys talent immediately and set him up with the 1965 Starr kit you see in these pix. With its original Pigskin Kick Head it is perfect for blues, rockabilly etc. He also has a great loud Pearl stage kit for big venues and is building up a new kit using 40 year old Maple extended toms. Gonna be big!!!!!!! Michael has been a solo Ragtime Blues and Country picker in Tasmania, West Australia and NSW between gigs as a linehaul truck driver. The driving career has ended thankfully due to failing eyesight but it has allowed him to pursue his passion for music more fully. For the last four years he has been rhythm guitarist and vocalist for the Sydney band The Mongrels. With his longtime friend and guitar mentor, Ian Willis, he was a founder of Mongrelguitars, a luthiery and high end guitar component importer We play everything from Blues, Country through to Ragtime and even Ballads. Available on 61420 759 487 for gigs anywhere in the world.
