Q&A with Phoenix-based blues-rock guitarist Brandon Teskey, new album Live at The Rhythm Room captures band's absolute peak

“The Rhythm Room is a historic venue with a great stage, and it’s always exciting to play there. I’ve seen countless heroes on that stage, and it’s an awesome place to perform. It’s very cool to now have that venue as part of our own band’s history.”

Teskey: Live at The Rhythm Room

Teskey, a rocking blues band, was formed in 2024. Their music includes and often fuses elements of Blues, Alt Rock, Pink-Floyd-esque Psychedelia, and Jazz. Teskey quickly began playing national shows and opening for famous blues and rock artists, while performing at world- renowned venues. The band includes Brandon Teskey on guitar and vocals, Matt Baldwin on Bass, Peter Murphy on Keyboard, and Brandon Gaddy on drums. In 2024 they released two singles, ‘Under the Sun’ and ‘Upside Down World’. In May of 2025 they released their debut album, White Wolf. Teskey drops new album titled, "Live at The Rhythm Room" (2026). Recorded live on December 3, 2025, Live at The Rhythm Room captures Phoenix-based blues-rock trio Teskey at Phoenix’s legendary blues venue The Rhythm Room, showcasing the band at its absolute peak. Backed by an impressive arsenal on vintage guitars (1965 Gibson ES-335; 1966 Fender Telecaster; 1965 Fender Stratocaster.and amplifiers (1966 Marshall JTM45; early 2000s Custum Audio OD-100), front-man Brandon Teskey (lead guitar, vocals) took the stage at The Rhythm Room on a seasonally cold, December night along with bassist Matt Baldwin and drummer Brandon Gaddy. During each song, Live at The Rhythm Room captures the sweat, fire, and emotional depth of a band that is quickly becoming one of the exciting new voices in Modern Blues Rock. Teskey's strengths: dynamic guitar playing by the aforementioned Brandon Teskey, a true rising guitar star; genuine emotion; and the ability to move seamlessly between crushing riffs, tender soul moments, and transcendent grooves.

How did the energy of this legendary club “The Rhythm Room” affect you, especially since the live show took place on a cold December night, yet your sound is pure fire?

Thank you! The Rhythm Room is a historic venue with a great stage, and it’s always exciting to play there. I’ve seen countless heroes on that stage, and it’s an awesome place to perform. It’s very cool to now have that venue as part of our own band’s history.

You played tracks from White Wolf alongside new material from Blue Dreams. How has your sound evolved in these new songs?

When I wrote White Wolf, I was personally going through a dark time. Now that I’m on the other side of it, some songs still reflect weathering that storm, while others—like “Gave My Love Back to Me (The Answer)”—are pure gratitude for making it through. Musically, we’ve also shifted from a quartet with keyboards to a power trio, which better captures the sound we’re going for.

Why did you choose to cover Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Back Home,” and how did you make it your own?

It’s a song we all love. The original is acoustic, but we came across a live full-band version by Clapton and Winwood and used that as our jumping-off point to make it our own. We also had the amazing singer Tony Noys guest on the track with us.

“First off, I’m blessed to be playing with such great musicians. When you play long enough with the same people, you almost develop a sense of telepathy. Whatever musical energy exists, you can feel it in your bandmates’ performances and hear it in how they’re playing. There’s a lot of nonverbal communication that happens. Sometimes you can even feel when someone is about to make a mistake before they do.“ (Photos: Brandon Teskey & album cover of Live At The Rhythm Room)

You perform using top-tier vintage gear, like a ’65 Gibson. How much do these instruments define your signature sound?

I have both new instruments and vintage ones. I can definitely get my tone out of the new ones, but the old ones have their own thing about them. I think when you play a guitar long enough, the instrument strangely takes on its own personality. Someone once told me that a lot of these newer boutique guitars or high-quality reissues are trying to be a vintage Strat or a vintage Les Paul—they painstakingly go through every component fighting to be that thing. But when you plug into some of these old instruments, they don’t have to try to be that thing, because they are that thing. That idea stuck with me. Just as important as the guitar and amp, though, is first having a clear vision of the tone you’re after and using your hands, touch, and picking dynamics to draw it out of the instrument.

As a power trio, your chemistry is incredible. How do you communicate with Matt and Brandon while on stage?

Thank you! First off, I’m blessed to be playing with such great musicians. When you play long enough with the same people, you almost develop a sense of telepathy. Whatever musical energy exists, you can feel it in your bandmates’ performances and hear it in how they’re playing. There’s a lot of nonverbal communication that happens. Sometimes you can even feel when someone is about to make a mistake before they do.

You are being called “one of the most exciting new voices in modern blues.” What is your next big goal?

Our next goal is to finish our upcoming studio album, Blue Dreams, and do some touring in the coming months. Blue Dreams is mostly recorded, but we added three more songs that we still want to lay down.
