Eric Adams Wilson: Losing Ground
Eric Wilson Adams first began singing in a Rock band in the ripe age of 14 while still in Middle School. In 1969 five young Brookings High School boys formed the rock and roll cover band called COCOON. Each had been in earlier “garage bands”, such as The Abstracts since 7th grade before forming COCOON. They traveled the State in their “puke-green” converted school bus making many new friends along the way. He and his band members continued throughout High School and College roaming the Midwest in their worn out in their monster green converted school bus. After the band years, Eric Wilson Adams began writing his own songs. A mix of Rock, Country and blues. Eric and his band COCOONinducted to South Dakota Rock Hall Of Fame in 2018.

Texas-based musician and songwriter Eric Wilson Adams released his new 12-tracks album, titled Losing Ground (May 2025). Eric says:“Because I grew up singing cover tunes... my own sound varies from rock'n roll, blues, and country rock/blues. I spent a lot of time alone as a young boy. I had to entertain myself.. whether playing with toys or singing.; which along the way just made me a creative person. Some people say I am "creative" oddly enough.. I do not think of myself as creative. Stuff just happens.”

How does music affect your mood and inspiration? What moment changed your music life the most?
Moods and inspirations are all across the board. For example... swings vary from rock n party mood, love mood, and sad memories. My parents always had music of their day playing in the house... it is how I learned music appreciation. However, THE MOMENT that moved me most... was my first concert... THE BEATLES. I was 13.
How do you describe your sound and songbook? Where does your creative drive come from? Is there a message you are trying to convey with your songs?
Because I grew up singing cover tunes... my own sound varies from rock'n roll, blues, and country rock/blues. I spent a lot of time alone as a young boy. I had to entertain myself.. whether playing with toys or singing.; which along the way just made me a creative person. Some people say I am "creative" oddly enough.. I do not think of myself as creative. Stuff just happens.
Are there any memories from gigs, jams, open acts and studio sessions which you’d like to share with us?
How much time do you have? When one entertains for 40+ years the memories/ stories are endless. Darn near all of them fun and pleasing. As we got older I enjoyed our reunion gigs the most. My band, COCOON, was inducted into the South Dakota Rock Hall of Fame in 2018...along with the well known Williams And Ree! Yes.. I am an older entertainer...but blessed to be very much in shape and able. And now that I am airing on some radio stations with my new tunes...I am elated.
”Musical impact is as varied as there are the endless personalities in people. Music brings lovers together as well as sets people apart. Music provides happy moments and sad moments...pride and shame. Personally I prefer people just sit back and enjoy. Regardless of song gender.” (Photo: Eric Wilson Adams)
What do you miss most nowadays from the music of the past? What are your hopes and fears for the future of?
Perhaps what I miss the most is ORIGINALITY. This is nobody's fault... it is just very difficult to produce original acts/sounds. Having said that.... artists need only be themselves... and they will attract folks that are similar in tastes.
If you could change one thing in the musical world and it would become a reality, what would that be?
This is a tough question for me... as I am not one that seeks to change anybody. It be great if all of us could be introduced to the music of other countries and learn to appreciate their sounds. This would create more of a 'carry-over' and heighten our music appreciation.
What is the impact of music on the socio-cultural implications? How do you want the music to affect people?
Again.. musical impact is as varied as there are the endless personalities in people. Music brings lovers together as well as sets people apart. Music provides happy moments and sad moments...pride and shame. Personally I prefer people just sit back and enjoy. Regardless of song gender.
Let’s take a trip with a time machine, so where and why would you really want to go for a whole day?
Set me in a recording studio session with The Beatles.
