"I still believe strongly that music can impact people’s lives in many ways. Sometimes all it needs to do is make you sing and dance and laugh and love, sometimes it can make you think, sometimes offer solace in hard times. I feel music is most impactful when listened to with the heart as well as the ears."

"Everything in music is ultimately communication, whether it’s conveying the emotion to the audience, or tightening up the arrangements with the band (or getting the audience to show up!). Putting yourself in the other person’s shoes will invariably provide some valuable insights."

"I think people just worked harder in general back in the 60s and as a result, were able to create some great stuff, including music. As time went on, everything has gotten easier. You no longer have to devote years to your craft if you don’t want to. It’s easier than ever to create, record and release music and as a result, there’s a lot more poor quality music out there."

"I think if we can aware people for social issues, education, health and other global issues through music would be a great achievement for a musician. We can also empower people through music. I would like to do the same way. For me satisfaction is key to a well lived."

"Technique has to come in a distant second to feeling. I mean we can walk into pretty much any saloon anywhere and see guys playing super speedy licks. Chops galore and technique that is dazzling. But to me the best moments always occur when someone reaches deeply into himself and speaks some truth. With soul. With feeling. With heartfelt emotion. And technique be damned."

"In terms of the future, my hope for music is renewed whenever I see a kid with an electric guitar, dirty converse high top sneakers and a smirk. It has to be all three of those ingredients. Two of them isn't enough. It doesn't matter to me what kind of music the kid is interested in. Seeing that kid starting the journey warms my heart. I hope that kid has some fight in him and sees it through!"

"The blues is one of America’s first popular music that really influenced everything in the world. A lot of those guys didn’t get recognition or compensation while they were alive so it’s important to me to get their stories out there in a human way. The story needs to be told by black people. The story has been told by a lot of white scholars and Hollywood, which limits the perspective."

"I do love the music of the past, but I'm more interested in what is coming up in the future. I'm at times nostalgic but I don't feel like any eras of music were necessarily better than now. It's amazing to have so much music at our fingertips these days. I am excited to hear new voices that are reflecting the time they are in."
