"The blues was also related to many social issues, always from the side of people that were mistreated and suffering, so its implications in our life is evident, we can live in democracy and freedom and this also thanks to all the blues musicians that were supporting the cause of equal rights. A world without the blues is really missing something..."

"I’d say that Portuguese people also share the nostalgia and sorrow of the blues. We have Fado music for example, which is genre that although it comes from a different root, has similarities in terms of soul, feeling and deepness. With this in mind Portuguese blues musicians have these feelings already engraved when they play."

"I think the biggest thing I miss is the way radio approached new music. Many stations were owned locally, so their favorite bands from the area plus get airplay and make a living playing original music. My hope is that the younger players see the beauty of keeping the music real. By that I mean not relying on technology more than talent. My biggest fear is the other end of that spectrum!!!"

"Most folks have really strong views about the blues, both positive and negative. I find the negative opinions are generally due to ignorance, and with a proper introduction, those opinions change positive more often than not. The Blues chronicles the human experience of joy, pain, success, failure, work, play and love. There is no ‘Hate’ in the Blues. It is a tapestry of culture that embodies the best of humanity. Luther Allison said it best: “No Black, No…

"I know it sounds cliché, but clichés exist because of the truth they define. Music IS the universal language because I have experienced music connecting people who don't understand the language of the lyrics. I have learned through music that we are all one and it can unite us, so I believe in the power of music."

"I am working with kids whole my life, or through my TV show for kids, or as an art teacher, or as a father of three kids, and also through Blues At School that I am doing from Memphis to Croatia. Kids are pure essence of human being, so open, so natural and direct. Someone said that if you look into kids eyes you can see God. I am always learning from kids."

"Music does calm the savage beast, but also feeds him as well. I found that no matter what changing moods I have gone through in life; music has been the great equalizer. "I believe that the 60’s and the 70’s were magnificent years for the British scene. The most important bands in the world came out of those years, and it was revolutionary. Much of that audience lives still, and they transmit the passion for live music to their children and grandchildren. I have seen it at the CB’s shows."

"Poetry can have the same subversive power as music. Although it is much more solitary both in creation and appreciation, it can open minds, unite them. Poetry is a door.
